Selina Lao, Heidi Tan, Kehan Wang and Guanyu Zhao, students in the SHTM’s BSc in Tourism and Events Management programme, made their mark at the 2nd China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition held in Guangzhou, Mainland China, on 15-19 May 2024. Together with Dr Richard Qiu, SHTM Assistant Professor and supervisor of the student team, they won a total of four awards:
• Second Prize on the Virtual Simulation Competition
• Best Rural Revitalisation Project Proposal
• Third Prize on the TikTok Clips Contest
• Excellent Supervisor Award
The SHTM student team was among 225 teams participated in the final round of the competition.
With an aim to enhancing experimental teaching, improving teaching quality and fostering high-end talent with comprehensive and practical tourism management skills, the Competition encouraged students to apply their knowledge and engage in theoretical learning and practical exploration. Building upon the success of the previous competition, the 2nd China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition successfully facilitated exchange between faculty members and students from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland universities, establishing a brand of disciplinary competitions across the region.
As this vibrant and dynamic roster of student activities suggests, life at the SHTM is packed full of opportunities to excel beyond the walls of the classroom.
